Garth Barfoot...what a Dude !!!

Edition 70 Monday December 6th  2010
Hi ,  welcome to edition 70 !!!, wow amazing ,every one an original inspired and encouraged from your amazing feedback and support, a BIG thankyou all!....we don’t look a day over 40!
 Staying with ‘things in their 70’s being inspirational” I was lucky enough to get an invite to support ‘Team Ngatira’ at the Auckland Triathalon in Mission Bay on Sunday. I was in awe of the hundreds of Aucklanders who got up at sparrows to join them in completing the swim,bike, run . There was none more inspiring than 75 year old Garth Barfoot a 50 year veteran of the ‘tri’. What a legend, he told the after party that “he got ‘in the paper’ after his first tri all those years ago and has been in the paper ever since…….sometimes he pays most of the time not”haha. Garth is lining up at the Taupo and Wanaka half ironman races then off to Brazil for another!!. What a cool Dude….attitude, passion and the body of  a person half his age!
It was impossible not to be movedby the experience, so much so that in the heat of the moment I sort of committed to ‘having a crack’ at the post xmas/new year event in March 2011 !!. So the challenge is out there….keep up with the Joneses and the Barfoots !!!,dare yuh,cheers Jonesey
Harry the ‘hot dog’ loved hitting the surf in his ‘boardies’to cool off this weekend,legend

After talking about teamwork last week  coincidentally I found this old favorite;
“My team will be totally involved in my own entire reason for living…to be respected and admired by your peers. I want them to be assailed by the feeling that the only thing in the world they can never do is to let each other down.
This is how I perceive we will achieve our goals through being a fantastically tight team. A team of people who will go to the wall for each other , inspiring, covering, supporting , helping out everywhere , each backing up the others, watching each other through the difficult areas , each ready to jump in and help, to slave away at whatever is necessary. We need a team of people who will push themselves until they feel they are going to collapse. And then they will go back and do it again . And again. Not because they have to but because they want to. Because the prospect of letting down their team mates is so utterly so humiliatingly unthinkable”
A paragraph taken from the book “Born to Win”written by Australia II Americas Cup skipper John Bertrand after his team wrestled the ‘auld mug’ off the Americans in 1983. I think it is self explanatory however imagine if we could engender this commitment from our teams!
