Hi,I coached a rugby team once that made the grand final only
to lose in the last minute of play.Life can be cruel,especially sport. That was
twenty two years ago and the memory is vivid and painful to re-live to this
day. That was a lower grade team where the result whilst important to those
involved at least didn’t affect an entire region or a nation! Stuff happening
to us like that shapes and defines who we are so I guess my previous experience
allows me to feel for teams like the Crusaders who were also so cruelly pipped
at the post by the Waratahs on Saturday night in Sydney…bugger!!!
Speaking of cruel,my lack of DIY skills was also cruelly
exposed again on the weekend as I attempted to install new curtains and
assemble Fletchers new trampoline! I am glad we had two days and that I
succumbed and actually read the instructions after a couple of failed
attempts.Thank goodness the rails and the blinds once up hide most of the
additional holes in the wall from those earlier failed attempts J. I am also lucky that our older son
Matthew was on hand to project manage the tramp construction as that had the
potential to be relationship threatening.
Fletcher says; modern curtain and tramp packaging these days may not always
be recyclable but it is a lot of fun to play with and leave around for parents
to trip over or have to store somewhere!
Christine has completed fourteen weeks of probationary volunteer fire training and has
been voted on to the local team. Just in time for the intensive basic training
proper at the completion of which she will be qualified to spring into action
each time the local siren is activated.We are very proud of her efforts.
Fletcher and Christine both celebrate birthdays this week which is also cool !!
It is important to make the most of special occasions with
family and friends.

and the Hendersons reckon When I feel ‘dog’ tired at night, its probably because I have growled all day ! They also note that
in dog years I would be long gone !!! Hmmmm
I was looking at some photos recently that featured me in
typical work clothes a number of years ago. Crikey I couldn’t believe how
formal everyone dressed in those days. Everyone in the photo was either wearing
a suit or a tie or both, most had jackets on and several had waistcoats or
little handkerchiefs in pockets etc.
It looked like we were all off to a wedding or a funeral! By
todays standards we were totally over dressed……or were we?
Have we lost something over the years that should have been
retained more than it obviously has been? Does the casual way we dress today to
do business indicate a slackness or a lack of respect for ourselves or those we
do business with? Does wearing a suit or a tie today look out of place or
weird?
Given the recent lack of formality I havent bought or worn a
tie for as long as I can remember and only own one suit(apart from the infamous
‘red cross’ dinner suit) that is worn for ‘super’ formal occasions like
weddings and funerals only!
You know what Ive decided I actually miss not being more
formal for business so I have started wearing my suit once a week to work. I
love those days and the way I feel when I am wearing that suit. I actually have
an ‘Upbeat’ spring in my step and like the comments people make even though
they are generally enquiring about what job interview, wedding or funeral I
might be attending!
I like the feeling so much that I am even going to seek out
my stash of ties and have some fun unleashing those on my colleagues and
customers again soon(be warned).
Yes I am going to set yet another trend and lead the business
community back to formality, you heard it here first so be prepared to dust off
your glad rags, change is upon us !!! J
