Hi,Mothers Day is always a time to make ammends for being a demanding problem child.I am lucky my Mum is still going strong and diplomatic enough to deny that was ever the case with me (not).

We enjoyed a lazy lunch in sunny, leafy Devonport pretending I was the perfect child..dear Mum!

Then I made the mistake on behalf of Fletcher of saying to Christine if you could do anything this Mothers Day what would it be?.......to which she requested that both her son and I behave for the whole day!!!.....crikey and I thought making Mothers Day nice would be easy!?..dear wife and Mum!

I hope you had a cool weekend thanking or remembering your Mum and making sure she knows it!!

Fletcher reckons; ‘right now in the City a brave band of heroes is ready to fight fiendish villains to stop them messing with your day’ as our obsession with the PJ Masks continues to protect us all!!

Speaking of Mums and protecting us all just as we sat down for Sunday dinner the local siren pierced the still twilight air as our resident fire fighter joined the fearless local volunteers and headed into the darkness to a fire in the forest. We are lucky and truly blessed to have this lady in our lives!

I hope you are well and that life is good, have an ‘Upbeat’ week ahead…...........Cheers Jonesey

Harry and the Hendersons reckon if Dogs could speak they could tell you(me) a thing or two!

This week ‘linked in’ reminded me of my sixth anniversary in my present position, it made me think…

Am I in my happy place at work or is it a place I would rather not be?

I think if we had a preference we would rather not work however most of us don’t have that luxury.

So hi ho hi ho off to work we go day in and day out so I reckon it needs to be our happy place.

But what if it isnt and everything we want it to be just doesn’t eventuate…..leave right???

Leaving is the easy option and what I have found in my career is the grass is never greener elsewhere but often looks it but then turns out to be astro turf!!!

So if you are not living the work dream and want to stay where you are what do you do?

I tryed this recently;

  • Identify what is preventing your happiness and make a list of what you enjoy about your job and why, then what you don’t enjoy and why.
  • Figure out why the stuff you identify is a problem and any solutions you can think of or suggest. It is always better to have some solutions up sleeve.
  • Approach your boss about the issues you have identified armed with your suggested solutions.
  • Work with your boss on what you and the company can do to overcome the obstacles to your happiness and success.
  • This will do two things….make your boss aware you are not happy and involve him and you in figuring out a way to make you happy and therefore get the best out of you.
  • Be open, honest and ready to change your attitude and role to enable you and the company to both be happy. Happy boss + happy employee =no internal strife = happy work life(and wife).

I know a number of people who are not happy in their work and it is affecting their total performance.

Leaving is the easy option and what a lot of people do without at least trying to work things out.

No job is ever perfect and nor are we so like a lot of stuff it is what you make of it so don’t moan, stand up, think about solutions and do something about it!!
