Edition 299 Monday September14th 2015
Hi,as
I sit to write to you high above the swirling,relentless Tasman sea the local
volunteer fire brigade siren sounds transforming our sleepy hollow into chaos
for the second time this weekend. With dogs attempting to compete with siren
screaming our resident brigade representative side steps the crazy scene to
locate car keys and depart for the station. No time to lose with only four
minutes to get there for her mission. ‘Car
Accident on the beach’ Christine’s pager tweets franticallly following hard
on the heels of the local car fire callout on Friday night!
Just
then the Westpac Rescue chopper (what would we do without them?)flys low
overhead shaking our already upside down house headed up the beach as part of
the same rescue mission….Crikey just another quiet weekend gone mad on the wild
west coast!
Fletcher says; He wouldn’t live
anywhere else in the world and would dearly love to be part of the Westpac
Chopper team one day,good idea son but make room on board for your Mother at
all times!
I
had the good fortune to listen to a new Toastmaster speak about the importance
of being grateful for what we have rather than always comparing ourselves to
others.He suggested we should all write down something we are grateful for
every day so I tried it….you should too.It makes you realise how lucky we
really and how important stopping to think about that is.
The
drama continues to unfold outside as I write and together with Fletcher we
watch the rescue chopper ferrying accident victims back to the local surf club
as our community rallies to help…..I write this down as the thing I am grateful
for today…..yes we are indeed lucky.

I met a guy many years ago whom I formed a business relationship that
has stood the test of time.
In that time he has built a successful business from nothing through
hard graft ingenuity and perserverance whilst I have worked for a number of
companies that have always supported him.
During that time others have come and go but his loyalty to me and vice
versa have never waned or been questioned by either of us.
This is a relationship built on trust and integrity which has always
delivered mutual benefit. My ‘friend’ is nearly twenty years older than me and
is ready to exit his innovative business. There are a number of powerful and
rich competitors eager to acquire control of the niche he has carved out for
himself in the industry however who has he turned to first?
He has given the first right of refusal to purchase his business to me
and my company purely on the strength of the relationship and trust we have built
together over the years.
Yes others have the money , the influence, the power but none of them
have the special bond between us that is central to doing this deal.
Money and power breed ignorance and complacency whereas this business
was built on humility and family values and it is important to him that someone
likeminded buys his business…like me!
We don’t realise it at the time but whether we are meeting people for
the first second or thirty third time we are constantly building mutual trust
in our relationships with them that we hope will result in a beneficial result going forward.This example
is testament to the importance of creating and maintaining these relationships
that become more than that they become true friendships!
